Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 26, 2026

1. Scope

StartNew Technologies Corp. ("START Canada", "we", "us", or "our") operates the START Jobs event and workshop platform at startjobs.ca, including event browsing, registration, waitlists, online event access, profile features, mentor applications, support, and related email communications.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information through START Jobs. It is separate from privacy terms that may apply to other START Canada products, mobile apps, or websites.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account information: name, email address, password hash, email verification status, password reset tokens, login/session information, and role flags such as attendee, mentor, or administrator.
  • Profile information: phone number, country, city, profile photo, headline, bio, profession, skills, interests, social links, resume references, and related profile content you choose to provide.
  • Event registration information: event selections, attendee name, email, phone number, country, city, timezone, registration status, waitlist status, cancellation status, verification tokens, attendance-related records, and event communication history.
  • Mentor application information: applicant name, email, biography, areas of expertise, event proposals, resume files, application status, review history, and mentor account setup information.
  • Uploaded files: resumes, profile images, event images, and similar files submitted through START Jobs features.
  • Communications: support requests, newsletter signups, product or event access requests, event messages, follow-up emails, delivery status, unsubscribe or suppression records, and responses to surveys or feedback requests.
  • Promotional campaign list data: email addresses and optional names imported from START Canada sources, partners, institutions, colleges, or authorized sales agents for a specific campaign where the source represents that appropriate permission exists.
  • Technical information: IP address, browser and device information, timestamps, security logs, rate-limit records, error logs, and similar operational information.

3. How We Use Information

  • To provide event listings, registrations, waitlists, email confirmations, calendar files, online event access, and attendee support.
  • To operate user accounts, profiles, mentor dashboards, administrator tools, mentor application review, and resume download controls.
  • To send transactional messages such as email verification, password reset, registration confirmation, waitlist updates, event reminders, event follow-ups, cancellation notices, mentor account setup messages, and support responses.
  • To send newsletters or promotional event campaigns where permitted by law, based on consent, an applicable relationship, or representations from the list source, and to maintain unsubscribe and suppression records.
  • To manage online workshops, including sending Microsoft Teams or other meeting links, operating live sessions, and publishing event recordings when applicable.
  • To protect START Jobs, prevent abuse, enforce access controls, detect delivery failures, troubleshoot issues, and maintain audit records.
  • To comply with legal, accounting, tax, security, dispute-resolution, and regulatory obligations.

4. Online Events, Recordings, and Public Posting

Some START Jobs events are online or hybrid events. We may use Microsoft Teams or similar tools to host those events. When you join an online event, the meeting provider may process information such as your display name, email or account identifier, IP address, device information, chat messages, audio, video, and participation data according to its own privacy practices.

We may record online events, workshops, webinars, Q&A sessions, or portions of those sessions. Recordings may include participant names, profile images, voices, video, chat content, questions, comments, and shared screen content. We may edit and publish recordings or clips publicly, including on START Canada websites, social media channels, or YouTube, for education, marketing, training, and community-access purposes.

If you do not want your image, voice, or chat content included in a recording, you should keep your camera off, stay muted, avoid posting identifiable chat messages, use a non-identifying display name where the meeting tool allows it, or contact us before the event to discuss available options.

5. Promotional Email, Partner Lists, and Consent

START Jobs separates transactional event messages from newsletters and promotional campaigns. Transactional messages are sent to provide or administer a service you requested, such as registering for an event. Promotional campaigns may be sent to people who have subscribed, have an applicable relationship with START Canada, or appear on a partner, institution, college, or sales-agent list provided to us for a specific campaign.

When a partner, institution, college, or sales agent provides a campaign list, we expect the source to have collected the list lawfully and to have permission to share it for the intended campaign. We may keep records about the campaign source, import, consent attestation, delivery status, unsubscribes, bounces, and complaints. Promotional emails include an unsubscribe method, and unsubscribe or suppression records are kept so we can avoid sending future promotional campaigns to that address.

6. How We Share Information

  • Service providers: vendors that help us host the site, operate databases, send email, process delivery feedback, provide online meeting tools, store files, secure the platform, and support operations.
  • Email and communication providers: Microsoft 365 SMTP or similar email services for transactional messages, and Amazon SES or similar services for promotional campaigns.
  • Online meeting and media platforms: Microsoft Teams or similar meeting tools, and YouTube or social platforms if recordings or clips are published.
  • Authorized START personnel: administrators, event organizers, mentors, support staff, and contractors who need access to operate events, review applications, manage attendees, or provide support.
  • Partners or institutions: where an event, workshop, campaign, or program is operated with a partner, institution, college, employer, or sales agent, limited attendee or campaign information may be shared as needed to administer that activity.
  • Legal and safety recipients: regulators, law enforcement, courts, payment or security investigators, or other parties where required or permitted by law.

We do not sell personal information.

7. Retention

START Jobs does not currently use a fixed deletion schedule for all records. Unless we delete information in response to a valid request, remove it during routine maintenance, or are legally required to delete it, we may retain account, event, registration, waitlist, mentor application, resume, communication, campaign, unsubscribe, suppression, security, and audit records indefinitely for operational history, support, compliance, fraud prevention, dispute handling, and legal or accounting purposes.

If we no longer need specific information, we may delete it, anonymize it, aggregate it, or restrict access to it. Promotional suppression records may be retained for as long as needed to honor unsubscribe requests.

8. Your Choices and Requests

  • You can unsubscribe from promotional emails using the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us.
  • You may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information associated with your START Jobs account or event records, subject to identity verification and legal or operational retention requirements.
  • You may request removal of uploaded resumes or profile content where the feature does not allow direct deletion.
  • Deleting or cancelling an event registration may not remove all historical records, delivery records, payment-related records, security logs, or suppression records.

9. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including access controls, hashed passwords, session protections, private resume download controls, validation, rate limiting, and server-side security checks. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

10. Children and Young Participants

START Jobs is intended for a general career-development audience and is not directed to children under 13. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you should use START Jobs and attend events only with permission from a parent, guardian, school, institution, or other responsible adult where appropriate.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as START Jobs features, service providers, legal requirements, or business practices change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
